Medicare inspectors found that facility staff failed to follow infection control procedures for COVID-19. On May 4, 2022, facility staff were observed helping an unvaccinated resident to the restroom. This resident had also been staying in a yellow zone, indicating possible COVID-19 exposure. Neither staff member was wearing proper infection-control PPE.
A record review during the 5/4/2022 inspection revealed that staff failed to conduct safety assessments prior to use of an air mattress for two residents in the sample population. Safety assessments are crucial to ensure air mattresses don’t present a safety hazard for residents. A punctured or faulty air mattress can result in serious injury.
Medicare inspectors found, during their 5/4/2022 inspection, that a resident’s call bell was out of reach on several occasions during the month of May. Staff were also unaware whether the resident in question could easily use the handheld call bell.
